Crafted in the early 1970s by educational professional Charlotte Lockhart, Discover Intensive Phonics for Yourself are grounded in an intensive, explicit, systematic. Ms. Lockhart’s initiative was in direct response to her students’ poor reading performance. Lockhart, a former elementary instructor and principal, tutored students in her office daily using high-kinesthetic/verbal techniques. As she taught, these young people quickly learned how sound and letter relationships create words. Lockhart’s students transformed their lives as they learned to successfully read and spell.
More than 28 years ago, Reading Horizons became the distributor of Charlotte Lockhart’s instructional manuals. Simultaneously, the organization established itself as an early innovator of elementary and adult reading software providing individualized instruction and accompanying hands-on practice. The many years of experience has paid off - few technology companies have been successfully developing software as long as we have!
In January 2001, Reading Horizons purchased the Discover Intensive Phonics for Yourself copyright from the Lockhart family. Since that time, Reading Horizons has been uniting all of the components used to teach Discover Intensive Phonics for Yourself under one publishing umbrella. This union has given us the ability to innovate new advancements and focus on the needs of administrators, teachers and students worldwide.
