Alternative Language Narrations

  • A click of the mouse gives students directions narrated in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, or Haitian-Creole, making the software available to students who do not understand basic English. Additional Languages coming soon!

Pronunciation Proficiency Tool

  • Displays the 42 sounds of English in animated illustrations showing the proper placement of the tongue, movement of the mouth, and whether the sound is voiced or voiceless when pronounced.
  • Full-motion video of a mouth articulating each of the 42 sounds.
  • Students equipped with a microphone can record themselves practicing each sound and compare their pronunciation with the narrator's.
  • Letters are also drawn with a large font to improve letter formation.

Vocabulary Development

  • 10,000 terms, including many high-frequency words, allow students to hear definitions and context sentences and see visual representation, where applicable.
  • English for Special Purposes found in the Vocabulary tool allow students to practice their decoding skills with words relating to school, travel, hospitality, medical, and business.
  • Teachers can choose to have words displayed in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, andh Haitian-Creole in the Vocabulary section of Reading Horizons v5
