Introduction of Word Builder, a slotted card to use with the 42 Sound cards for phoneme manipulation and substitution.

All vocabulary-controlled stories were compiled into a set of four Little Books:

• Little Red Book contains nine stories, covering skills taught in Sections 1 through 6.
• Little Blue Book contains eight stories, covering skills taught in Section 7.
• Little Green Book contains 10 stories, covering skills taught in Sections 8 through 11.
• Little Orange Book contains five stories, covering skills taught in Section 12.
• Five new stories were added in the publication of the Little Books.
• New illustrations were used for six of the current stories and the five new stories.

Lesson Summaries: Enrichment materials that once followed each lesson were combined with preparation information and moved to preface each lesson.

• Small representations of practice pages, assessments, and Little Books to be used in that lesson are displayed in the lesson summary for easy reference.
• Suggestions for phonemic awareness activities are listed in each preface.

Updated Reverse Listening Cards:

• All RLCs were reviewed for accuracy and to be certain the words to be decoded on the cards were also used in the sentences. With this improvement, RLCs can be used for guided-reading exercises.
• New RLCs were developed to include the Special Vowel Sounds ng and nk, contractions, compound words, reversed vowels, and exceptions.

Added to MCW lists for kindergarten (27 words total).

The wall posters were updated to include:

• 42 Sounds and blends.
• Kindergarten blends and Special Vowel Combinations.
• MCWs (for new content and new design), including four new MCW kindergarten posters.

The Teacher Supplement was updated to include all-new material.

The index is more detailed and expanded.

The Section Preface was made more extensive to include the materials required for that section.

Wall Posters

• The Two Decoding Skills Poster was created to serve as a visual reminder similar to the Five Phonetic Skills Poster.
• All posters have a new, updated look to reflect the new Reading Horizons logo and materials.
