“The light bulb came on!” proclaims Kenneth Foster. “I finally was able to understand those spelling rules! Now, when I come across a word that I am not familiar with, I can sound it out and pronounce it correctly with confidence.”
Foster, who is currently enrolled with Hemet Public Library Adult Literary Services in Hemet, California, attributes this newfound confidence to a lot of hard work aided by a software program called Discover Intensive Phonics for Yourself (DIP) from Reading Horizons. Having dedicated himself to three one-hour sessions per week on the computer over the past 2½ months, he has found that picking up a book is now something to which he can look forward with enthusiasm.
“I am not apprehensive about reading anything anymore,” Foster says. “I don’t limit myself on what I choose to read. When I run into a challenging word, I take my time and remember the spelling rules I learned in the Intensive Phonics program.”
Additionally, Foster says that he has found that the skills he has acquired through Discover Intensive Phonics have been extremely beneficial beyond the walls of a classroom or a library.
“I feel confident reading out loud at church in a group setting,” he says. “I am more eager to set higher goals for myself. I feel I am not limited in life.”
It’s a good feeling, he agrees, that is available to any who give Discover Intensive Phonics a try.
“I feel this product could benefit all age groups,” Foster states. “(and) I would like to thank the person(s) who developed this program; it can truly change lives.”
